I look at my screen and type in letters and numbers Click, clack, click, clack My keyboard goes rhythmically I pretend to be deeply engrossed in whatever is happening on my monitor I get a feeling of incompleteness I look in the corner of my eyes My hands are stretching to the right of my keyboard where my phone lies I move my hand back to the keyboard I take a big breath Fighting the itch to pick up my phone Listen mindfully I tell myself Be present

I eavesdrop on the conversations of nature, outside The sighing of the breeze The rustling of the leaves Hanging for dear life on their branches The swishing and swirling of dried leaves Scraping the soil and flying over the ground Yip, Yap, Growl, Howl A dog barking Within the boundaries of its home Another dog yapping In response to his friend The constant chirping of birds I hear it all
I hear the 'ping' of my phone The roar of a car The screech of tires Pressing honks The sputtering of a motorcycle The clicks of my mouse The clacks of the keys on my keyboard All resonating in my mind Full of jumbled thoughts Tangled, twisted and all tied up tight I hear it all
I take a sip of water from my water bottle Stretch and elongate my spine And continue typing
Something changes I can no longer hear the sounds Nature's conversations seem dim, far away I hear the clicks of my mouse The clacks of the keys on my keyboard The breath that I expel The words on my screen
